Why Google Buys Everything

I, like a true slave to the Google machine, started my morning with a hot Starbucks and logged into Google Webmaster Central to check and see what new errors Googlebot was reporting today.

After blanking out on the url I did what I always do, I Googled it: ‘webmaster’

There it was at the top of the SERP, “Google Webmaster Central”.  What a great keyword to own. I am sure all those poor bastards that spent years optimizing for the short-tail keyword think so as well.

Although obviously not the only reason why Google started the service, they must consider what keywords they want to own and make sure they have some sort of  service that can logically appear as a result.

Perhaps that is why Google Buys Everything

The Usability Juggernaut MSN Messenger

So I was about to write my first blog on MSN messenger and its icon-mismash-usability-nightmare-interface, when I decided to check if  a new version was available before I hit “post”.

my current version

Turns out there is…

I successfully navigate past the default software add-on’s; all ten of them including something called ‘Family Safety’???

And then there it is – only 7 icons with no text … compared to my old craptastic version with 13ish.

New Version

POINT MICROSOFT!
Wow don’t hear that everyday.
