In the 60’s, Joseph Weizenbaum created ELIZA; a chatterbox. He was disgusted by how people were taking it so seriously. In this day in age, it seems highly unlikely that there would be true believers of ELIZA. Especially that I became bored with ‘her’ instantly.
This is my conversation with ‘her’:
>> Hello.
How do you do. Please state your problem.
>> no one in my class thinks my dog is cute
Your class thinks your dog is cute ?
>> no they dont think he is cute
Are you saying no just to be negative?
>> no im telling you the truth
You are being a bit negative.
>> ok they wont comment on his cuteness
But your class thinks your dog is cute .
>> no they dont think he is cute
Why not ?
>> because they sy every other dog is cute and not mine
Is that the real reason ?
>> yes
You seem to be quite positive.
>> i am
Is it because you are that you came to me ?
>> i am what?
How long have you been what ?
>> what do you mean?
Why do you ask ?
>> because you made no sense right there
Don’t any other reasons come to mind ?
>> because you are a robot
Does that reason seem to explain anything else ?
>> yes yes it does
You are sure.
>> yes
I see.
>> whats the date today
I’m not sure I understand you fully.
>> what is today’s date?
Does that question interest you ?
>> yes
I understand.
>> then tell me
Please go on.
>> ok well i think today is wednesday august 31
You say ok well you think today is wednesday august 31 ?
>> yes
You seem to be quite positive.
>> i am quite positive
Do you believe it is normal to be quite positive ?
>> no
Why ‘no’ ?
>> because there is no normal
What other reasons might there be ?
>> because you are a robot
Is that the real reason ?
>> yes
You are sure.
>> goodbye
Goodbye. It was nice talking to you.
